Child psychotherapist Sandra Donaldson, 46: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice
Chicago Tribune (IL) - Tuesday, November 19, 1991
Deceased Name: Child psychotherapist Sandra Donaldson, 46

Sandra K. Donaldson, 46, a child psychotherapist, served as a therapist, consultant and supervisor both in the Department of Child Psychiatry and in the Laboratory Schools at the University of Chicago

A resident of Hyde Park, she died of cancer at home on Nov. 10.

``Her life was devoted to healing the hurt child,'' said Jacquelyn Sanders, director of the Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School at the U. of C. ``The effects of that life are felt by the many children she helped heal, the many adults she taught to do the same thing, and the many relatives and friends who benefited from her touch.''

The Orthogenic School is a residential treatment center for severely emotionally disturbed children and adolescents.

She had served the school as a counselor, teacher, social worker and assistant to the director.

Miss Donaldson had received a master's degree from U. of C. and was studying in the child pyschotherapy program at the Chicago Institute of Psychoanalysis when she became ill. She had also taught there.

``She always saw the positive and good in a situation and person,'' said John Fenning, a friend. ``She had cancer for more than five years and went through all kinds of treatments and operations, but she complained maybe a total of three times. When she dealt with a child that another therapist might consider a disaster, she saw the talent, the potential and the good in the child. She had tremendous integrity and I think that's what others, especially her friends, saw in her.''

Survivors include her mother, Catherine [47831:LF]; four sisters; and a brother.

Services were held Sunday in the university's Bond Chapel
