LOOGOOTEE — Mary C. "Cathi" Raney , 70, died at 5 p.m. Thursday at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born on Nov. 2, 1940, in Columbus, she was the daughter of John [W86:LW] and Margaret (Henin) [W46:LW] Phillips.

A graduate of Loogootee High School, she was a retired waitress.

Survivors include her husband, James L. Raney [W35:LW], whom she married on May 29, 1976; a son, Lyle VanLew Jr. of South Bend; four daugthers, Sherri Ward of McPherson, Kan., Lila Yates of Hayward, Calif., Donna Asbell of Huntingburg and Jamie Raney of Loogootee; a granddaughter, Johni Raney of Huntingburg; and two brothers, Joseph A. Phillips [W79:LW] of Rochester and Lee Wolf [W82:LW] of Indianapolis.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Chester Kenneth Phillips [W3:LW].

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Brocksmith Funeral Home with burial at Mt. Union Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mary C. "Cathi" Raney , 70, Loogootee, died at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

She was born in Columbus on Nov. 2, 1940, to John and Margaret (Henin) Phillips. She married James L. Raney on May 29, 1976.

Surviving are her husband, James L. Raney ; one son, Lyle VanLew Jr., South Bend; four daughters, Sherri Ward, McPherson, Kan., Lila Yates, Hayward, Calif., Donna Asbell, Huntingburg, and Jamie Raney , Loogootee; two brothers, Joseph A. Phillips, Rochester, and Lee Wolf, Indianapolis; and one granddaughter.

She was proceeded in death by one brother, Chester Kenneth Phillips.

Mrs. Raney was a retired waitress and a graduate of Loogootee High School.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Brocksmith Funeral Home, Loogootee. Burial will be in Mount Union Cemetery east of Loogootee.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
